CONGRESS THREATEN TO DISRUPT ISL MATCHES IF CONTRACTS ARE NOT GIVEN TO LOCALS

PANAJI: The opposition Congress Party on Monday threatened to disrupt Indian Super League (ISL) if all contracts given to outsiders are not terminated within next four days.

All the games of ISL are scheduled to be held in Goa from November 20, behind closed doors. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Vice President Sankalp Amonkar alleged that all contracts of providing security, transport, infrastructure, lights and sound system etc were given to non-Goan companies even as Goan businessmen suffered badly due to COVID pandemic. Even infrastructure works like construction of bridges and highways are awarded to Dilip Buildcon and MVR while locals are denied sub-contracts, he rued.

Amonkar also urged Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to ensure that adequate precaution is taken as many players and even a coach of one of the teams currently camping in Goa had tested positive. He also asked Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to intervene and give contracts to locals running public transport system. He also made similar appeal to Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar, who also hold sports portfolio.
