GOVT WILL NOT ALLOW DESTRUCTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT: GOA CM
PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that government will not allow destruction of the environment while executing projects of national interest and find a solution to all the issues.
Sawant told reporters that during his Delhi visit, he met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and conveyed apprehensions of the people regarding the highway expansion at Anmod Ghat.
He claimed that no houses will be demolished during the expansion of the national highway.
The Chief Minister said he also met Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and added that the Government of India is executing the National Infrastructure Railway Development project which is for State development. He recalled that in the past people also opposed the Konkan Railway project in Goa.
Justifying the need for the Tamnar Power Transmission project, the Chief Minister clarified that 80,000 trees will not be cut and alleged that some people were spreading wrong information on social media. Also, only six poles will be erected in the Mollem forest area, he added.
“I too have concern for Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary and it will not be destroyed. The government will arrive at a solution without destroying the environment,” Sawant said.
During his two-day visit to Delhi, Sawant also met Union Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayats Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Patel and requested the latter to sanction Bondla and Old Goa tourism circuit projects. He also invited Patel to attend the 60th Goa Liberation celebrations.
