PANAJI: North Goa Youth Congress District President Rinaldo Rozario on Friday hit out at the government over frequent power cuts that have now become the norm in the Cumbarjua constituency.
Pointing out that over the past week, the villages of the constituency have suffered hours-long power cuts for almost every day of the week, Rinaldo demanded that the State Electricity Department cease to make misery of the lives of the common man through underhand tactics and come ocean on their inability to supply regular power to long time residents of the state.
“The Cumbarjua constituency is home to some of the most historic and heritage villages of the state. Its residents have for long enjoyed a peaceful life without too many power interruptions. However, over the past few weeks, power cuts have become the norm rather than the exception,” Rozario said.
He pointed out that across the month of May, especially between May 8 and May 22 the residents have faced power cuts for at least four hours a day, barring an odd exception when the power was uninterrupted.
“If the electricity department fails to remedy the situation, we will be forced to demand answers from the officials and the minister for these unscheduled power cuts, which we believe are because the department is prioritising high rise and gated complexes at the cost of the common man. The Youth Congress will be forced to disrupt the functioning of the power department unless the situation is remedied at the earliest,” Rozario said.
