Goa State Pollution Control Board Celebrated World Environment Day, Emphasizing Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Practices
The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) is delighted to announce the successful celebration of World Environment Day on 05/06/2023. This momentous event aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation, promote sustainable practices, and inspire individuals and organizations to take action for a greener and healthier Goa. The event was held at the Auditorium hall of the Goa State Pollution Control Board Office in Saligao, where esteemed guests, environmental enthusiasts, and key stakeholders came together to commemorate this important day. The occasion was graced by prominent personalities, including but not limited to Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Hon’ble Minister for Legislative Affairs, Environment, Law & Judiciary, and Public Works Department, Shri. Mahesh Patil, Chairman of GSPCB, Dr. Shamila Monteiro, Member Secretary of GSPCB, and Prof. B. C. Choudhary, Retd. Scientist. And Wildlife expert. Members on the Dais:

The event featured a series of engaging activities and insightful presentations. Highlights of the program included a floral welcome of the guests on the dais, lighting of the lamp to symbolize the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment, and the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle Interventions for Environment) pledge, which encouraged individuals to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. This was Followed by a Welcome Address by Dr. Shamila Monteiro.
Throughout the celebration, the GSPCB released a Concise document on Rules and Acts, along with a Manual on Sewage Treatment, lastly GSPCB also released the Annual report at the Auspicious hands of Shri. Nilesh Cabral showcasing its initiatives and achievements in the field of environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the promotion of cloth bags as an alternative to plastic bags was showcased, emphasizing the urgent need to reduce plastic pollution. Noise Meters, procured by the Dept. of Environment were distributed by Shri. Nilesh Cabral, to Authorities to facilitate them to Evaluate the Ambient noise levels and take informed and necessary actions.
The event also included prize distributions and felicitations to acknowledge individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to environmental conservation. Winners of the Poster Competition, Best Practices Competition, and Quiz Competition were honored, highlighting their exemplary efforts and innovative solutions.
The celebration was enriched by keynote addresses from distinguished speakers. Professor B. C. Choudhary, a renowned retired scientist, delivered a thought-provoking talk on “Beat Plastic Pollution: Solutions to Pollution,” providing valuable insights and strategies to combat plastic pollution. Which was followed by an Address from Shri. Mahesh Patil, Chairman of Goa State Pollution Control Board. Finally, Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Hon’ble Minister for Legislative Affairs, Environment, Law & Judiciary, and Public Works Department shared with the gathering his vision for a sustainable Goa. Moreover, presentations by industry experts shed light on sustainable practices and technologies.

2. Sensible Earth focused on waste management and circularity.
3. Ideatech Automation shared their innovative wastewater treatment and monitoring solutions.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude, memento presentations to dignitaries, and the singing of the National Anthem to honour our nation and its commitment to environmental preservation. The Goa State Pollution Control Board extends its sincere gratitude to all participants, guests, and stakeholders who made this celebration of World Environment Day a resounding success. The event showcased the remarkable efforts being made to create a sustainable and eco-friendly Goa.
