Aldona: Refuting allegations that former Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo had pursued the matter for underground power cabling worth Rs 120 crores in Aldona, current MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Thursday accused Ticlo of lying to the people, and produced documents to substante his statements. Ticlo had recently made certain charges against Ferreira for taking credit for the underground cabling works that were approved.
“There was no proposal of Rs 120 crores by him for underground cabling in Aldona. He lied about it. No proposal by him was carried forward during 2017 and 2022, and his proposal was rejected in September 2021. The fresh proposal was approved after my demand in the assembly on 13 July, 2022. You can’t mislead people. I request Glen Ticlo when speaking publicly and accusing someone to first study the matter and make statements” he said. Ferreira said that following his recent letter to the Executive Engineer of the power department seeking details on the underground cabling project, he received replies stating that there was no proposal by Ticlo.
“There was only a proposal and estimate of Rs 82 crores to convert existing 11kv feeders to underground cabling in Aldona, Pompurpa and Bastora sent on August 2019, but this was not sanctioned and the proposal was returned for rate revision in September 2021. Despite the proposal being not approved, he went ahead and told people in September 2021 that the project was approved,” he said.
Ferreira also said that is was not enough to make proposals but it needs to be approved and executed. If not, the MLA has failed. Even if proposal was made, approved and not executed it is a failure. To prove his pursuing work for execution, Ferreira said “For example, the road at Pomburpa leading up to the crematorium was pending for so many years. I was told of how many coconuts were broken but Road not done, which I got it done. Despite being a 2-time MLA of the BJP you could not get files passed. You have told people false promises during your tenure. You are trying to obstruct development works though your people and even trying to bypass me at the Panchayat level. I am doing development for the people with no commission. If you try to block works it will be great injustice to the people of Aldona. I am not a politician. I work for the people; even before my tenure as MLA my family stood for the people, especially poor,” the MLA said.
