Congress leaders and supporters on Friday demonstrated at Azad Maidan in Panaji against ruling party BJP for misusing government machinery against their leader Rahul Gandhi.
Subsequent to Gujarat high court’s order denying a stay on the conviction of Rahul Gandhi’s plea in a defamation case over his ‘Modi’ surname remark, Congress leaders said that ‘it is murder of democracy’ to hatch a conspiracy against him.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar said that the verdict is unfortunate because Rahul Gandhi had raised issues of common man in Parliament.
“He had spoken about the relationship between Narendra Modi and Adani. But this Bhrasht Jumla Party hatched a conspiracy and disqualified him as Member of Parliament,” he said.
“Rahul Gandhi always raised the issue of inflation, price rise, unemployment and many other issues like communal tension created by BJP. This verdict is unfortunate. It is murder of democracy. People of the nation are with Rahul Gandhi. Is it wrong to raise burning issues,” he questioned.
Patkar said that Modi government has failed on all aspects and has failed to deliver promises.
“What happened to jobs which were promised by Prime Minister and sky rocketing prices of LPG. Why they failed to control inflation and give solace to public. Now people should unite and teach a lesson to this insensitive government,” he said.
Mahila President Beena Naik said that BJP used government machinery against the Rahul Gandhi. “BJP is afraid of him and hence trying to make him suffer. They are using divide and rule policy. Law and order has collapsed here,” She said.
Congress general Secretary Vijay Bhike said that Congress has contributed lot to the nation with the help of people. “BJP has killed the democracy of India. Law and order has collapsed in the country. Manipur is suffering, however BJP is busy in destabilizing governments,” he said.
“We condemn the act of conspiracy hatched against Rahul Gandhi,” he said
Viriato Fernandes said that BJP is frustrated to see the success of Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Hence they tried to send him behind bars. “Our democracy has to survive and we will fight for it,” he said.South District President Savio Disilva also spoke on the occasion.
Youth Congress President Joel Andrade, Orvil Dorado, Janardhan Bhandari, Pradip Naik,Virendra Shirodkar, Archit Naik , Everson Vales, Jaidev Prabhugaonkar ,Divyakumar,Pelagia Raposo, Saeesh Aroskar and others were present on the occasion.
