MINISTER MICHAEL LOBO THINKS GARBAGE (MARINA) NOT WANTED IN ANY VILLAGE CAN BE TAKEN TO CALANGUTE: AGNELO

PANAJI: Former Calangute MLA and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Agnel Fernandes on Saturday said that Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo has not understood his job.

According to Agnel, Michael thinks that any garbage which is not wanted in other villages can be brought to Calangute. He did the same thing with casinos when Panaji MLA opposed it. Now it is doing same thing with Marinas.

Fernandes was responding to Michael’s statement that Marina project can be taken to Calangute, if not wanted by villagers of Sant Andre constituency.

“He (Michael) has absolutely no vision, he is only looking at the money. Michael’s idea is to breach the bundh and bring the seawater into the fields to make a marina. This would be devastating,” Agnel said since the bundh started by him has just been completed by Michael at a cost of Rs six crore.

The former MLA said that Marina will displace and destroy the livelihood of traditional  fishermen of Calangute constituency.

“People of Calangute constituency will not allow Marina at any cost and I hope people of Sant Andre constituency will support us just like our people supported them there. I don’t think people of Goa want this type of destructive projects in Goa which will destroy livelihood of local people,” Agnel said.
