YOUTH ARRESTED FOR SENDING THREATENING MESSAGES TO CM, OTHERS

MARGAO: The Ponda police arrested Ashish Suresh Naik, 25, a resident of Cortalim for allegedly sending threatening and ransom messages to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and other senior government functionaries.

Four such cases have been registered at Ponda, Verna, Curchorem and Panaji police stations, said SP South, Pankaj Kumar Singh.

A mobile phone handset used in the crime has been recovered from the accused.

A case has been registered against Ashish for threatening with  dire consequences, abusing and putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion.

At present the accused is arrested by Ponda police and he is also wanted by police in other cases registered against him at different police stations, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh said.

It may be recalled that last week, the Verna police had arrested 42-year-old Jayesh Phadte of Sancoale for giving threats and demanding ransom from Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
