Panaji: Hon. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Govind Gaude on Wednesday morning inspected the venue at the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, Ponda that will host the Archery discipline for the 37th National Games.
The venue commandant and overlays team along with officials from the PWD, electricity department, traffic cell, etc were present.
“Small issues should not be left unresolved, hence we held this inspection. Archery will begin at this venue from 29 October. This is an outdoor sport and there have been recent showers. All arrangements including parking, changing rooms, VIP lounge, athlete lounge, German hangers, etc are set up. By 26 October, this venue will be ready for the Games. The venue commandant will take a trial run and we have a breathing space of 48 hours to sort out any issues. Even if it rains, we are ensuring that there is no muddy or shabby look at this venue,” Gaude said.
Gaude said that around 200 spectators are likely to be present. Some seating arrangements will be reserved for students in the interest of the sport.
“Sports being held at open venues will not have seating restrictions. The venue commandant will have the list of students who will be coming. Students are the bright future of our nation. We need to create motivation and curiosity within them for the Games so that they take up the sport and become stars in their own way. This is my dream and of the government,” he said.
“We are set to host the National Games in a very optimistic manner. Since the start our entire team has been working hard. This is team work. All the officers who are dedicated are coordinating the work,” he added.
