Panaji: Hitting out at the mismanagement of the 37th National Games, President of South Goa Youth Congress Mahesh Nadar said that citizens have been put to immense hardship.

Nadar said that the unseasonal rainfall has also exposed the flawed planning as rainwater flooded the tents and kitchen area set up for the National Games.

Nadar also said that the traffic diversion for the cycling discipline of the National Games has been poorly planned.

“A portion of the main highway has been blocked. One route has been diverted for traffic proceeding to Dabolim airport via Sancoale, Birla, while another route via Cortalim and Chicalim. This has caused a lot o inconvenience to commuters due to the traffic jams. This shows the extent of lack of planning by the state government,” he said.

After social media posts went viral of rainwater entering the kitchen area of the National Games and the Sports City Village at Campal was inundated following heavy showers, Nadar said that the state government has not made any arrangements anticipating problems.

“So much of money has been spent on organising the National Games. This is mismanagement of funds. The government has failed to provide basic facilities and put in place proper plans. The rainfall has exposed the poor planning and execution of the government to host the National Games,” he said.

Nadar demanded an inquiry into the utilisation of funds for the National Games.
