TRUCK FALLS OFF FROM RO RO TRAIN ON KONKAN RAILWAY NEAR KHED

PANAJI: A truck which was loaded onto railway wagons (RO RO) service of Konkan Railway fell off near Khed, Maharashtra on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred between Khed and Karanjadi on the Konkan Railway route. However, the truck driver had a miraculous escape as he jumped to safety on time.

According to Konkan Railway sources, this is for the first time that such as bizarre incident had occurred on the Roll On Roll Off service which was started many years ago.

The RO RO rain was proceeding from Mumbai to Goa when the incident took place. The driver who was sitting inside the truck noticed the vehicle loaded with iron plates shaking and jumped to safety before the truck fell off and crashed into the speeding train. As a result the middle part of the train got derailed.

On getting the information, the railway authorities immediately rushed relief van for rescue operations.

Konkan Railway senior officials also rushed to the sport and have ordered an inquiry into the incident,

Following the accident, all the passenger trains were halted at different railway stations. Goa-Mumbai Konkan Kanya and Mandovi Express trains were also running beyond schedule, informed KR sources.

On Monday, November 16, a lorry cleaner from Mumbai was killed after he fell off from the RO RO train near Innaje railway station between Udupi and Mangalore railway stations.
