ALDONA: Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira recently met Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari along with Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to demand a flyover at the Peddem junction on NH66.
Explaining that the junction is an accident-prone zone, Ferreira apprised the Union Minister that closing the junction without giving a proper alternative for motorists was incorrect.
” I explained that the service roads that lead to the junction are not of proper width, and the traffic not only comes from Peddem, Camarcazan and Acoi, but also from Tivim, Sirsaim, Bicholim and beyond which exits at this junction. As this point is the closest to the North Goa District hospital and schools, the move to close the junction would cause inconvenience to citizens. The alternative via Caraswaddo is a longer and difficult route, and diverting traffic at the Bastora underpass will create more traffic jams near and around the Mapusa Church and on the road climbing Altinho in Mapusa,” Ferreira said.
Dr Sawant supported the proposal by Ferreira and informed that the Goa Government had forwarded it to the Government of India on the need for a flyover.
Ferreira said that Gadkari has agreed to have the proposal examined positively.
