  3. Nadar rips into govt for sprucing up roads only for PM’s visit

South Goa District Youth Congress president Mahesh Nadar hit out at the ruling BJP government for neglecting the infrastructure needs of the southern part of the state and only turning its attention to impress the Prime Minister who will be visiting the state on February 6 and the dignitaries who will be visiting the India Energy Week at the same time.

Addressing the media, Nadar pointed out that for long crucial infrastructure like roads, and services that have been left to lie in ruin are only now being spruced up showing utter disregard to the residents and citizens of the constituency.

“Apathy was the name of the game, but now that the Prime Minister is coming, the state government knows it is in a mess and needs to cover it up to make it look perfect. It reminds me of how my parents used to make me clear my room when some guests were coming to the house,” Nadar said.

“The government is spending crores of taxpayer money to dress up the state but cares two hoots for the same taxpayer to ensure that he has good roads day in and day out,” he added.

“Vehicle users pay hundreds of crores of road tax each year don’t get good roads for even a few months a year and some roads are not repaired for months on end,” he also said.

Nadar said that the Margao Kadamba bus stand that has been lying as a makeshift shed for decades on end is only now getting a facelift not for the benefit for the thousands of commuters who use the service but for the benefit of making a good impression on their party bosses.

“Is he coming with employment opportunities or policies that will bring down the inflation rate or some schemes for better health and medical services or the black money to India. When he is failing then why are we celebrating his coming,” Nadar added.

We have noticed that when the government has the will, as recently witnessed during the recently concluded national games, the spruce up the roads in a timely manner to ensure that the VVIPs are not subjected to the travails that the common man is subjected to on a daily basis.

If the government can repair the roads in Fatorda, why is it that the department cannot treat other parts of Goa, especially the hinterland in a similar manner. Or is it that the government has one set of rules for the VVIPs and another set of rules and standards for the common voter?
GPYC members Saquib shaikh and Ansh Rokade were also present.
