The delegation of National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday called upon education secretary Prasad Lolyekar and sought his intervention in providing quality food to students of Goa University.
NSUI state president Naushad Chaudhary has said that they have asked to provide quality food in mess, that too without increasing rates. “We had brought the incident of maggots found in food of Goa University mess to concerned authorities. Now we have requested the government to provide quality food by keeping a check on it,” Chaudhary said.
“We are writing to urgently address a deeply concerning issue regarding the quality of food provided in the mess facilities at Goa University. Recent reports have revealed the presence of maggots in the food served to students, highlighting a significant breach in food safety standards and posing serious health risks to the student population,” the letter stated.
“This alarming discovery demands immediate and decisive action. As the responsible authority overseeing educational institutions in Goa, it is imperative that you prioritize the well-being and safety of our students. Therefore, we strongly urge the allocation of sufficient funds from the Goa Government to Goa University to address this critical issue and ensure the provision of high-quality, hygienic food to all students,” it further reads.
“Failure to address this issue promptly not only jeopardizes the health and well-being of students but also undermines the reputation and credibility of Goa University. Therefore, We urge you to take swift and decisive action to rectify this situation and ensure that all students have access to safe and nutritious meals on campus,” Chaudhary said.
