SONIA GANDHI ARRIVES IN GOA DUE TO HEAVY AIR POLLUTION IN DELHI

PANAJI: All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi arrived in Goa on Friday after doctors advised her to shift out of the national capital in view of the heavy pollution and poor air of quality in New Delhi.

She was accompanied by former Congress president and her son Rahul Gandhi.  A senior Congress functionary said doctors had advised her to shift to a warmer place for some time till the air quality improves in Delhi, since it may aggravate her chest infection.

On Thursday, Sonia Gandhi, 73, made a brief appearance at the Indira Gandhi Memorial, Delhi to pay tribute to the former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi on her 103rd birth anniversary.

“Mrs Gandhi has chronic chest infection for over a month now and it is not improving because of hazardous air quality in Delhi. The heavy pollution has aggravated her asthma and her chest condition,” said a party functionary.

Sonia Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Dabolim airport on Friday afternoon and straight headed to the resort. She had earlier arrived in Goa in January last year and stayed in a resort in South Goa.

Meanwhile, former Minister Joaquim Alemao and his son Yuri Alemao are set to rejoin the Congress Party on Saturday. They may call on the Congress President Sonia Gandhi since she has approved their homecoming to the Congress.
