SCHOOLS IN GOA REOPEN FOR CLASS X & XII
PANAJI: School reopened in Goa for students of standard of X and XII, who attended classes in a staggered manner.
Students were explained precautions to be taken in classroom due to Corornavirus infection and each student was made to sit on a single bench by maintaining social maintaining.
Since the commencement of the current academic year in June, the schools shifted to virtual platforms to conduct classes online even as students residing in remote villages faced Internet network problems and had to walk few kilometers to attend online classes.
When Prime media TV reporters visited some of the schools across Goa followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) issued by the Directorate of Education, Government of Goa. It was noticed that students were asked to wear proper face masks, sanitised their hands and classrooms were spruced up. However, some schools will reopen from Monday, November 23.
Keshav Smriti High School, Vasco, Headmistress Sushma Korgaonkar said that reopening of school was not difficult but a challenge because they have 180 students.
Korgaonkar said, “It’s a challenge for us because we have 180 students and we have to allow only 12 students in each classroom by maintaining social distancing. We took every parent into confidence and divided students into six groups and they will attend classes on alternate days.”
She said that students response was positive and hoped that classes will run smoothly.
Selwin Fernandes, a class X student of Santa Cruz High School said, “I am happy to see all my friends and teachers as for many months were were studying online classes. Now I am happy to come to attend classes. Attending school in better because online we use to have to have lot of network problem and other problems like not audible,”
Loyola Higher Secondary School, Margao, Principal Fr Basil Vago said that the first of the school was cooperative and there was 100 per cent students attendance. He said students response was good and they were sensitised about the coronavirus and measures and precautions to be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
“For last one week we have been busy sanitising all classrooms because same classroom will not be used twice on the same day. Every batch will have different classroom,” he said.
Swardhata Naik and Sahil Shetkar, both class XII students from Margao were happy to attend classes. They said thay were given sanitizers and when entered the classroom they were told to maintain social distancing leaving one bench and they could sit comfortably without any worries.
Parents also need not worry because school is taking good care of us,” Shetkar said.
Meanwhile, the Goa government is yet to take a decision on reopening of classes for standard I to IX and XI where students are attending classes online.
