The Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd. (SIDCGL) has initiated the laying of a treated effluent pipeline from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Katem Baina to the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). The project was inaugurated by Mormugao MLA, Sankalp Amonkar, in a ceremony held today.

The initiative marks a significant step towards improving wastewater management in the region. By transporting treated effluent to the MPA, the project aims to enhance environmental sustainability and support the port’s operations with a reliable water source for non-potable uses.

Speaking at the inauguration, MLA Sankalp Amonkar emphasized the importance of the project for the community and the environment. “This pipeline will not only ensure that treated water is effectively reused but will also reduce the burden on freshwater resources,” he stated. Amonkar lauded SIDCGL for their efforts and highlighted the long-term benefits of the project for Mormugao’s ecological and economic landscape.

The project aligns with Goa’s broader goals of promoting sustainable development and efficient resource management.
