DGP MEENA SAYS GOA GOVERNMENT MUST OPEN ALL ACTIVITIES

PANAJI: Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Kumar Meena on Saturday said that people visit touristic Goa for relaxing and that the State government should open all activities since stopping people will the contradictory to its policies.

Speaking to media persons, Meena said all have to only take precautions to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. He said this even as Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted that in view of the rising cases in Delhi, the Goa government would adopt Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of Maharashtra for regulating flights and trains from Delhi.

The DGP however said that Goa Police is gearing up for Christmas and New Year festivities when many tourists come to Goa.

To a question, Meena said that law and order was good in Goa since it is a peace-loving State. He also added that now the registration of cases by police has improved. People of Goa don’t indulge in organised crime and they don’t harass tourists, he said.

Asked about increasing drugs cases in Goa, Meena said police was cracking down on drugs and wants a drug-free Goa.

Meena said that ISL football matches being played in Goa will not be allowed to be disrupted and the Goa Police will provide adequate security to the organisers.

The DGP said the case of hacking of deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavalekar’s mobile phone is under investigation and that the police have sought some details from Kavalekar and concerned agencies.

Last month Kavalekar was accused of sending an obscene video clip on Whatsapp group while, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed that his mobile phone was hacked while he was fast asleep.
