The Goa Maritime Officers Association (GMOA), in association with Yacht Life Goa and Yes Bank, celebrated the “Day of the Seafarer,” which is observed annually on July 25th. This event aimed to honor the dedication and hard work of seafarers, who often go unrecognized for their significant contributions. The celebration also recognized academic achievements among students of standard X and XII within the GMOA community, highlighting the importance of education alongside the demanding maritime profession.

The event was graced by distinguished guests including Capt. Venzy Viegas, Mr. Octavio Rodrigues (Captain of Ports), Capt. Tushar Pradhan, Capt. Norbert F. Rebello, Shri Prasad P. Sawant, and Anchor of Hope, who highlighted the vital role of seafarers in global trade and maritime safety. Capt. Viegas emphasized the n eed to include marine education in the curriculum to foster early interest in maritime careers and advocated for tax-free earnings for marine professionals due to their unique challenges and sacrifices.

The event featured a spirited singing competition for the kids and a photography contest themed “Safety at Sea,” emphasizing maritime life and safety practices.

The day also honoured outstanding students from 10th and 12th grades within GMOA, encouraging them to pursue careers in the maritime sector.

Caricature artists and face painters added to the festivities, which concluded with a memorable dinner and dance, fostering community spirit and celebrating Goa’s maritime heritage.
