The staff of the Department of Information and Publicity (DIP), bid farewell to Information Officer, Shri. Prakash S. Naik, today. The Director of DIP, Shri Dipak Bandekar while speaking on the occasion said that Shri Naik is a senior most officer from the Department, and called him a stalwart who has seen and has been a witness to how the Department has changed over the years.
Shri Bandekar also commended Shri Naik for being an active member in the social and cultural field. The Director lauded Shri Naik for his remarkable skill of writing and said although Shri Naik is retiring, his pen will not be retiring. He concluded by wishing Shri Naik a happy and healthy retired life.
Hailing from Shiroda,
Shri Naik briefly reminisced about his journey starting as Information Assistant when he joined the Department on June 30, 1989 and was subsequently promoted to the post of Assistant Information Officer and Information Officer.
He advised the young generation in the publicity and press cadre of the Department to focus on writing sucess and development related stories. In this way, the Department’s name and image will also rise he said.
Shri Naik who has represented the Department in Sports disciplines such as cricket and football during the civil services tournaments organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, stressed on the importance of staying fit and urged the staff of the Department to take keen interest in sports.
Shri Naik who holds a Commerce degree from Bombay University later went on to do his post graduation studies in journalism.
During his journey spanning 35 years of service in the Department, Shri. Naik worked in the capacity as Information Officer effectively handling subjects related to Entertainment Society of Goa, Goa State Information Commission, Vigilance, Public Grievances, Right to Information Act, Language Unit, Publications, Field Publicity, Films, Exhibitions, Publicity and Schemes being implemented by the Department for the welfare of Journalists fraternity, among others.
He also served as a Nodal Officer for the Republic Day Parade, wherein the Goa State presents its tableaux in the national Capital Delhi at the Republic day cultural pageantry, besides participation of Goa state in the prestigious India International Trade Fair, initiated by India Trade Promotion Organization and Goa Day Function organized by Goenkarancho Ekvot, an association of Goans settled in New Delhi and its peripheries.
Shri. Naik has also served as Vigilance Officer, Public Information Officer and Public Grievance Officer of the Department.
During his tenure at the Sub Office at Margao from 1995 to 2005, he effectively handled publicity related matters connected with the South Goa District.
In a bid to propagate policies, programmes, initiatives, achievements and welfare schemes of the Government, Shri. Naik penned many productive articles which received wide publicity in the local newspapers.


Shri Naik was felicitated by the Ponda taluka, Patrakar Sangh on the occasion of Tilak Punyatithi. He was honoured by the State Government on the Occasion of National Press day for his contribution in creating awareness about the Covid-19 Pandemic in the State.
As far as his contribution in socio and cultural activities, Shri. Naik was the President of Shree Satyanarayan Devasthan located at Shiroda and is presently the President of Askan Bhajani Mandal.
In a span of over three decades, Shri. Naik has always been a hard working and dedicated officer and his ever helpful nature to all staff has won him praise from the Department.

Present at the farewell was joint Director, DIP, Shri Ganraj Morajkar, senior officers, staff, among others. Assistant Information Officer, Shri Shyam Gaonkar compered the function.
