  3. FISHERIES  DEPARTMENT SEIZES TWO MALPE FISHING TRAWLERS FOR ILLEGAL FISHING IN GOAN WATERS

PANAJI: In a major crack down on illegal fishing in Goan waters,  fisheries department  along with coastal police and traditional fishermen  seized  two Malpe-Karnataka fishing trawler  along with fifteen  crew members  on Saturday morning.  Both fishing boats have been  attached and anchored at fishing jetty, Panaji .  

After seizing of two trawlers, Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar said that the necessary action would be initiated against  owners of  both trawlers a per the fisheries law.  Regarding  fish catch in the trawlers,  he said that the  same would be auctioned.

The action on Malpe trawlers  initiated after Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott slammed the state government for failing to curb bull  trawling  in Goan territorial waters every year after commencing of  fishing season.
