SUDIP TAMANKAR LASHED OUT AT TRANSPORT MINISTER FOR CALLING BUS OWNERS ASSOCIATION ‘LACHAR’

PANAJI: All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) general secretary Sudip Tamhankar on Thrusday lashed out at Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for calling them ‘lachar’ (bankrupt).

Tamhankar alleged that the BJP government in which Mauvin is a Minister was ‘lachar’ and that the Association achieved what was their right through the High Court order and not by taking any favours from anyone.

Tamhankar said that during the hearing on November 24, the Advocate General told the High Court that the government will consider the representation of the Association and dispose of in accordance of law by the appropriate authority and expeditiously as possible and in case within a period of six weeks.

It was only after the court directions the government woke up and the Cabinet took a decision to grant 50 per cent rebate in the annual road tax for commercial vehicles for the current financial year.

Tamhankar however welcomed the decision of the State Cabinet giving them a 50 per cent relief in road tax and passenger tax for six months.

Tamankar also thanked assistant director of transport Francis Vaz, Advocate General Devidas Pangam and the Bombay High Court at Goa for giving them justice in the verdict.

North Goa Tourist taxi Owners Association general secretary Prakash Purke said that the State government was initially reluctant to give 50 per cent relief in annual road tax for commercial vehicles but was compelled to give it because of the intervention of the High Court.
