PANJIM: The Inspector General of Societies/District Registrar North, Panjim, has held that the central committee of the Gomantak Bhandari Samaj was illegally holding positions and has proposed to the government to appoint an administrator till fresh elections are held.
The Inspector General of Societies Tushan G Kunkolikar in his order has held that the present managing committee (2018-2021) headed by Ashok Naik was illegally holding position without authority of law and therefore it cannot take major policy decisions in the affairs of the society. The central managing committee will hold the records and affairs of the society only as a custodian and will hand them over to the administrator/s appointed by the govt.
Kunkolikar in his order stated that the amendments carried out during the tenure of the central managing committee were illegal, against the provisions of law and in violation of Section 12 of the Society Registration Act, 1860.
Since the affairs of the society were not carried out in a proper manner and specifically in terms of the by-laws of the Society and the Society Registration Act, the Inspector General of Societies proposed to the government for appointment of an administrator/s as per its decision for taking over the affairs of the society and to conduct free, fair and impartial elections to elect the new central managing committee in a time-bound manner and in the best interest of the Gomantak Bhandari Samaj.
The order was passed following a complaint filed by Adv Atish P Mandrekar and Anish Bakal on September 20, 2024. The elections were held on November 25, 2018, for a period of three years.
