  3. TRUCK OWNERS FURIOUS OVER MPL FOR  NOT INCREASING RATE  OF TRANSPORTATION

PONDA: The truck owners engaged in the transportation of ore pellets for MPL expressed their frustration regarding the company’s failure to meet their request for an increase in transportation rates over the past year.

They have issued a warning to pursue legal action if the company does not address the matter promptly. Currently, the truckers receive Rs 400 per tonne but are seeking an increase to Rs 700 per tonne, citing that the existing rates are unsustainable for their operations.

Both MPL and Goa Sponge are shifting responsibility onto one another concerning the fulfillment of this demand. The truckers also highlighted issues related to pollution, noting that local residents are not receiving adequate compensation. Additionally, the matter of local employment remains unresolved. In the meantime, the Ponda Police Inspector has promised to address the issue within two days following discussions with the company.
