PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council has resolved to dismantle all four illegal scrapyards situated within its jurisdiction during its ordinary meeting held on Monday.

Following the meeting, chairperson Anand Naik addressed the media, stating that the council has adopted a resolution to take action against these scrapyards, which pose a risk to public safety and operate without the necessary permits. The owners will be given a month’s notice before the clearance process begins. Additionally, Anand Naik announced that the council has approved a resolution to impose a house tax of Rs 2849 for new flats in residential complexes. Furthermore, businesses will be permitted to display only one signboard in front of their establishments. The council will also implement professional taxes for doctors, engineers, lawyers, and tuition coaching classes in accordance with the Municipal Act.

The council plans to issue notices to recover tax arrears amounting to Rs 64 lakhs from eight shop owners for the past eight years. Should these owners fail to settle their dues, the council has decided to seal their shops, as informed by Anand Naik. Moreover, the PMC has resolved to relocate fish vendors to the basement of the market complex in order to demolish the old fish market shed, paving the way for the construction of a new fish market.
