CM TO HEAD ORGANISING COMMITTEE TO CELEBRATE 60TH YEAR OF GOA’S LIBERATION

PANAJI: Goa Cabinet has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to celebrate 60th anniversary of Goa’s Liberation on 19th December 2020 and to chalk out year-long programmes as part of celebrations.

Minister for AYUSH Shripad Naik is the co-chairman of the organising and monitoring committee.

The other members of the organising committee are Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavalekar and Babu Ajgaonkar, Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Ministers Mauvin Godinho, Govind Gawade, Jennifer Monserrate and Nilesh Cabral, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, MLAs Pratapsinh Rane, Churchill Alemao, Sudin Dhavalikar and Vijai Sardesai, former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, former Minister Rajendra Arlekar, educationist Datta Naik, Freedom Fighters Association Pandurang Kunkolkar, Goa Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association Joaquim Pinto, Goa Konkani Akademi president Arun Sakhardande, Goa Marathi Akademi president, Tiatr Academy of Goa president Menino Fernandes, industrialist Srinivas  Dempo, businessman Ambar Timblo, senior journalist Sanjay Dhavalikar, historian Sachin Madage, former MLA Teotonio Pereira, Chief Secretary, Secretary (Information and Publicity) Director General of Police (DGP), District Collectors, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Chief Electrical Engineer, Managing Director of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), Additional Secretary (Finance), Director of Transport, Director of Tourism and Director of Information and Publicity.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that on 19 December after the main State-level function of flag hoisting a cultural programme will be organised at Azad Maidan, Panaji at 4 pm.

Programmes will also be organised at every municipal council and village panchayats and also in capital cities of other States so as to promote Goa’s tourism and culture.

Various programmes, lectures and seminar on Goa’s liberation movement, culture, tourism and Goa’s vision will be organised in the national capital.

The State government has also sought funds from the Centre to celebrate 60th year of Goa liberation.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the organising and monitoring committee is likely to be held on either 3 or 4 December.

Goa was conquered by Portuguese on 25 November 1510 and was liberated from the colonial rule on 19th December 1961.
