AGUADA: The Department of IT, Electronics, and Communications, Government of Goa, under the leadership of Minister of ITE&C Rohan A Khaunte continues to build strategic partnerships to position the state as a global innovation hub. This vision took center stage on November 17, 2024, at the historic Museum at Aguada, as Goa hosted Meet the Drapers, a globally renowned startup pitch show, offering entrepreneurs an opportunity to connect with international investors and compete for up to $1 million in funding.
Khaunte engaged in discussions with Tim Draper and his team on Goa’s vision, emphasizing its aspirations to emerge as a prominent IT hub and creative capital of India. He invited Draper to establish a Draper house in the state, underscoring the government’s commitment to driving innovation and advancing entrepreneurship
During the “Meet the Draper” show, Tim Draper outlined the key factors venture capitalists look for in startups: a large market opportunity, unique technology and driven people. When asked about setting up ventures in India, he stated that evaluations are underway. On the topic of women entrepreneurs, Draper remarked, “Entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs, not divided by sex.” He also shared his thoughts on Goa, saying, “Goa is a beautiful place and an excellent environment for entrepreneurs. We are hopeful about creating a Draper startup house here.”
The pitch day showcased four promising startups from various sectors, each presenting their innovative solutions. Goa App, a Goa-based startup, a tourism travel guide, offering tools to plan itineraries, discover adventures, rent vehicles, explore events, and make the most of their visit to Goa. Avni Wellness, a women’s health brand specializing in sustainable period care, intimate care, and incontinence products, delivering hygienic and reliable solutions for everyday comfort. Samaaro, an event technology company incubated with FiiRE in Goa offering a comprehensive suite of event management tools designed to help organizers streamline operations, boost attendee engagement, and maximize event ROI. LarkAI, a health-tech startup from Karwar, uses AI to detect heart issues at an early stage. LarkAI ecosystem enables prompt diagnosis of complex cardiopulmonary anomalies with real-time quantitative analysis and early detection of diseases aiming to improve people’s lives through early diagnosis and intervention. Their pitches focused on solving pressing challenges while tapping into emerging market opportunities. Draper and his team offered constructive feedback, equipping participants with strategies for growth and scalability.
