AGUADA:  The Department of IT, Electronics, and Communications, Government of Goa, under the leadership of Minister of ITE&C  Rohan A Khaunte continues to build strategic partnerships to position the state as a global innovation hub. This vision took center stage on November 17, 2024, at the historic Museum at Aguada, as Goa hosted Meet the Drapers, a globally renowned startup pitch show, offering entrepreneurs an opportunity to connect with international investors and compete for up to $1 million in funding.

Khaunte engaged in discussions with Tim Draper and his team on Goa’s vision, emphasizing its aspirations to emerge as a prominent IT hub and creative capital of India. During the “Meet the Draper” show, Tim Draper outlined the key factors venture capitalists look for in startups: a large market opportunity, unique technology and driven people. When asked about setting up ventures in India, he stated that evaluations are underway. On the topic of women entrepreneurs, Draper remarked, “Entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs, not divided by sex.” He also shared his thoughts on Goa, saying, “Goa is a beautiful place and an excellent environment for entrepreneurs. We are hopeful about creating a Draper startup house here.”

The pitch day showcased four promising startups from various sectors, each presenting their innovative solutions.  Goa App, a Goa-based startup, a tourism travel guide, offering tools to plan itineraries, discover adventures, rent vehicles, explore events, and make the most of their visit to Goa. Their pitches focused on solving pressing challenges while tapping into emerging market opportunities. Draper and his team offered constructive feedback, equipping participants with strategies for growth and scalability.

Meet the Drapers event highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in connecting local startups with global opportunities, offering visibility, mentorship, and access to essential resources.
