VASCO: The Goencho Raponkaracho Ekvott (GRE) celebrated World Fisheries Day at Bat Island with a series of traditional ceremonies, including a Mass and a puja, to honor the contributions of the fishing community on 21st November.
Addressing the gathering, GRE President Agnelo Rodrigues raised concerns over practices such as bull trawling and LED fishing, which he emphasized are detrimental to the livelihood of fishermen and the marine ecosystem. He also called for collective efforts to ensure the welfare and sustainability of the fishing community, urging authorities to address these pressing issues.
The event served as a platform to celebrate the rich heritage of the fishing community while highlighting the need for sustainable fishing practices.
