ILLEGAL TIMBER WORTH RS 6 LAKH SEIZED AT CURTORIM

MARGAO: A team of South Goa Division of Forest Department conducted and seized 6.255 cum of teak wood and 3.22 cum of Bhendi wood at Curtorim on Wednesday.

The team conducted search operations and managed to detect the stack of illegal timber in a private property at Damdolem-Curtorim. The same was then seized and brought to the Forest Timber Depot at Forest Colony, Aquem-Margao.

Seized material include 76 teak wood logs admeasuring 6.25 cubic metres timber and two poles. Another stack comprised of 21 logs of Bhendi wood admeasuring 3.22 cubic metres was also seized during the raid. The total market value of the seized timber is around Rs six lakh.

The Range Office Mobile Squad, Margao has registered a case against unknown person/s for illegal stacking, transport and felling  of trees.

Further inquiry is in progress, informed forest officials.
