IRB CONSTABLE, AMIT NAIK SEEN IN CCTV CAMERA HELPING SIDDIQUI SULEIMAN KHAN TO ESCAPE FROM THE CRIME BRANCH LOCK-UP IN RIBANDAR.
PANAJI: Siddiqui Suleiman Khan, who is implicated in multiple land grabbing cases, managed to escape from the Crime Branch lock-up in Ribandar at approximately 2:30 am on Thursday. This incident has caused significant embarrassment for the department, as an IRB constable, Amit Naik, allegedly aided in his escape, resulting in both individuals now absconding.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) focused on land grabbing had recently re-arrested Khan in relation to a land fraud case, merely 12 days after his previous arrest on November 14 for another property fraud case filed at the Mapusa Police Station. This marks his third arrest.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Varsha Sharma, who arrived at the Crime Branch office shortly after the incident, informed the media that stringent measures, including both disciplinary and criminal actions, will be pursued against those responsible. An FIR has already been lodged against Khan and Naik at the Old Goa police station, and the process to suspend the IRB constable is currently in progress. “A specialized team has been established to locate and apprehend the fugitives,” she stated.
Earlier, Superintendent of Police (CB) Rahul Gupta confirmed the occurrence, indicating that the IRB constable on duty had unlocked the lock-up, facilitating Khan’s escape. “Naik, while on guard duty, released Suleiman from custody and fled with him from the Crime Branch on his Yamaha R15 motorcycle. “All efforts are being made to locate the individuals involved,” he remarked, emphasizing that the entire department is collaborating to ensure a swift resolution. Public areas are on high alert, and neighboring police forces have been enlisted for support if necessary. The Crime Branch is also conducting an internal investigation, the findings of which will be submitted to senior officials for appropriate disciplinary measures against the IRB constable”.
