MARGAO-CUNCOLIM HIGHWAY EXPANSION
NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari announced that an amount of Rs 747 crore has been sanctioned for the 4-laning of a 7.24 km stretch from Margao Bypass to Cuncolim on NH-66.
The project, to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), will include the construction of a 4.45 km six-lane flyover aimed at alleviating congestion in urban areas.
Gadkari took on X to say that the project is part of the larger Mumbai–Kanyakumari 4/6 lane corridor, and is significant in connecting Margao and Cuncolim in South Goa.
It also serves as a key route for intra-state traffic coming from Karnataka and Maharashtra. The road passes through several vital locations including Navelim, Dramapur, Sirlim, Chinchinim, and Panzarconi.
“This stretch is crucial for connecting Margao and Cuncolim, while also facilitating intra-state traffic from Karnataka and Maharashtra. It aims to reduce congestion, improve safety, and resolve accident-prone areas,” he said.
