PANAJI: Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar officially opened the 8th “Aqua Goa Mega Fish Festival,” organized by the Directorate of Fisheries at the open field ground of SAG Campal on Friday.

The festival highlights Goa’s diverse range of marine and freshwater fish through an aquarium gallery and was inaugurated in the presence of Fisheries Secretary Sarpreet Sing Gill, Fisheries Superintendent Zigyasa Murkar, and a significant number of students from various schools and colleges.

In a statement to the media, Nilkant Halarnkar emphasized that the primary goal of the festival is to promote and enhance the fishing culture in Goa.

The three-day event will feature seminars, workshops, and business-to-business (B2B) interactions aimed at fostering collaboration within the industry.

Halarnkar further noted that the festival has been specifically designed to present the latest techniques and technologies that can greatly benefit fishermen and the general public, enabling them to explore potential opportunities for increasing fisheries production.

The event not only showcases a rich variety of marine and freshwater fish through its aquarium gallery, which will be accessible to the public, but also celebrates Goan culture with a range of entertainment programs, including traditional Goan folk dances and a food court offering authentic Goan cuisine.
