Citizens along with complainant Poonam Ajay Pratapsingh manhandling  a person for passing derogatory verbal comments  at  Mapusa bus stand

MAPUSA: Poonam Ajay Pratapsingh, aged 45 years, a resident of Chembur, Mumbai, Maharashtra, lodged a written complaint at Mapusa Police Station against two men for allegedly passing derogatory verbal comments toward women and viewing unwarranted videos on their mobile phones.

In response to the incident, members of the public, alerted by  Pratapsingh, intervened and manhandled the two men, who were later handed over to the police.

Upon inquiry, the individuals identified themselves as  Rittal Birandar Shaw, aged 31 years, a resident of Jharkhand, and  Giriver Shuhtai Nirale, aged 30 years, a resident of Chhattisgarh.

Given their actions and the resulting public fear of imminent danger to life and property, there was a strong likelihood that the two individuals might commit a cognizable offense in the near future. To prevent any untoward incidents and maintain peace within the jurisdiction of Mapusa Police Station, both individuals were arrested under Section 170 of the BNSS 2023.
