ONIONS TO BE SOLD THROUGH FAIR PRICE SHOPS FROM TODAY

PANAJI: Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Govind Gaude on Wednesday said that they onions will be sold at subsidised price to all ration card holders through fair price shops from Wednesday, November 4.

The State Cabinet last week took a decision to make available onions to consumers at affordable price of Rs 33 per kg in an effort to contain the price rise. All ration cards holders will be given three kg of onions per month.

The onions will be procured from National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).

The Minister said that in coming days more suppliers would be added.

To a question, Gaude said that stern action will be taken against bogus rations cards if found any.

Meanwhile, to counter the soaring price of onions, the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee sold onions at the rate of Rs 25 per kg much below the retail price at Panaji and Margao.

On the other hand, the BJP Mahila Morcha has welcomed the Cabinet decision to sell onions through fair price shops at subsidised rates.
