MUNICIPAL POLLS SOON IF GOD SAVES GOA FROM THE SECOND WAVE OF COVID: MILIND NAIK

VASCO: Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Saturday said that the government will hold elections for 11 municipal councils soon if Almighty protects Goa from second wave of deadly Coronavirus infection.

Naik said this on the sidelines of a programme held at Mormugao to distribute cheques to needy people under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

He said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ZP, and municipal elections could not be held on time even as Bihar is the first state in the country where Assembly elections are held under the shadow of COVID-19.

“I pray that God will protect Goa from the second wave of deadly Coronavirus infection,” Naik said.

He said the government had already appointed administrators for 11 municipal councils, whose five-year tenure ended on November 4. The administrators will function as per the rules till fresh elections are held.  He also requested outgoing councillors and others to be in touch with the citizens in their respective wards as elections will be held soon.

To a question, the Minister said that the reservation of municipal wards will be declared shortly.
