Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders from Mapusa staged a protest on Friday to highlight the deteriorating condition of garbage management in the city. AAP leaders criticised the current Mapusa MLA for neglecting the pressing issues faced by the residents.

AAP Mapusa leader Salman Khan stated, “The numerous roadside waste dumps have made life unbearable, especially during the monsoon, raising fears of disease outbreaks. The stench from these waste dumps is intolerable, making it difficult for residents to walk past without covering their noses.”

Khan also highlighted the numerous black spots across Mapusa, indicative of the poor services provided by the civic body. Despite collecting garbage taxes, the authorities have failed to address the waste management issue effectively. The concerned authorities and the Mapusa MLA have shown a lack of seriousness in tackling these problems, Khan lamented.

AAP leader Chetan Kamat expressed concerns about the quality of life in Mapusa, stating, “Mapusa people’s lives are surrounded by waste. The current MLA and his late father, who also served as MLA for several years, have done nothing for the development of Mapusa. The city’s roads are in terrible condition, and there is no proper waste management. Visitors to Mapusa are greeted by heaps of garbage, reflecting poorly on one of the state’s largest cities.”

Also present at the protest were AAP Vice President Gerson Gomes and other party members.
