V. M. Salgaocar College of Law (VMSCL) is hosting the 2nd edition of the Justice G.D. Kamat Memorial National Moot Court Competition from 9th to 11th February 2024. The competition was inaugurated at the hands of Advocate General of Goa Adv. Devidas Pangam. This edition will witness participation of 24 teams representing prestigious institutions across the country.

The inaugural ceremony witnessed participation from eminent personalities who unveiled the trophies of the competition. The chief guest being Adv. Devidas Pangam, VMSCL Principal Dr. Shaber Ali, Trustee of G. D. Kamat Memorial Trust Dr. Ajay Vaidya, Member of the VMSCL Governing Council Shri. A. E. Barreto, Faculty Incharges Dr. K. Shrinivas Rao & Ms. Priyanka Shet and the student coordinator Ms. Riddhi Moghe. The representatives of the G.D. Kamat Memorial Trust including Shri. G. K. Tamba, Mrs Kumud Kamat, Adv. Saresh Lotlikar, Ninad Kamat and others were also present for the occasion.

Speaking during the inaugural, Adv Devidas Pangam an alumni of VMSCL, expressed that being invited as the chief guest was like a homecoming for him and emphasised the importance of moot court since they help overcome the phobia of arguing and conveying their opinions.” Recalling his early times as a litigator he added, “Justice G.D. Kamat’s courtroom was pleasant and filled with simplicity with an idea to deliver Justice.”

In his welcome speech, Principal Dr. Shaber Ali acknowledged the efforts of the trustee and said that, “Moot court competitions have become an indispensable part of a law students curriculum.”

This competition is scheduled to be held over a period of 3 days. The final round will be held on the third day followed by the Valedictory Ceremony. The winning team shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and the runners up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 along with trophies and certificates. Awards for the Best Mooter, Best Researcher and Best Memorial shall also be designated with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 , Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 each respectively.

VMSCL has organised this competition in collaboration with Justice G. D. Kamat Memorial Trust in memory of Late Justice G. D. Kamat. The Competition in its very first edition had established itself as one of the most promising moot court competitions in the year 2023.
