  3. AITC Goa demands apology from BJP’s Union Minister Giriraj Singh for his misogynistic remarks against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Launching a scathing attack, AITC National Spokesperson Trajano D’Mello along with Goa TMC Joint Convenor Samil Volvoikar in a press conference at the party’s office, demanded an apology from BJP’s Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh for his misogynistic remarks against TMC Supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. They accused this double standard of BJP, which exposes their culture of disrespecting women in the country.

Coming down heavily on the BJP government, Volvoikar said, the BJP highly preaches ‘Naari Samman,’ ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ on one side, and on the other side is promoting ‘naari ka apmaan’ by insulting the only lady CM of the country. This culture is not new for the BJP. These remarks are similar to PM Narendra Modi’s mocking ‘Didi O Didi’ in the run-up to the 2021 Assembly elections in Bengal. BJP has not overcome the defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections, so they try to instigate the TMC leadership with cynic remarks.

D’Mello appealed to the women voters of Goa, not to vote for BJP leaders with this type of mindset in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He questioned, humiliating a woman does not mean insulting one’s mother or sister? “The elected BJP MPs, who have grave allegations of sexual harassment against them levied by the Olympic wrestlers of our country, have not got justice till today. Have they received justice? On August 15, 2022, they were singing about the empowerment of women in the morning but in the evening, they disempowered them by releasing the convicts of Bilkis Bano’s case.”

The BJP leaders were reminded of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji who rightly called Mamtaji ‘Agnikanya.’The ‘agni’ of her struggles and sacrifices led to the transformation of Bengal. Due to her strong, determined, and visionary leadership, people of Bengal have chosen her for three consecutive terms, and under her leadership ‘Sonar Bangla’ is shining brighter.

Reiterating TMC’s stand, D’Mello demanded an apology from the BJP’s Union Minister, and appealed to Goan voters to be aware of the double standard of the BJP government.
