Additional Sessions Judge Sharmila Patil on Thursday granted bail to Agnelo Dias, a resident of St. Inez,, who allegedly according to the police was caught red handed near Home Science College, Campal, Panaji, Goa with illegal possession of 3000 grams of greenish colour leafy substance with flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be of Ganja worth Rs. 3- lakh.

Advocate Myron Araujo representing the applicant submitted that his client is not guilty of possessing commercial quantity of contraband and the rigours of Section 37 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act will not apply and prayed that bail be granted.

According to the Police, Dias, 31, had come to deliver the same to his prospective customers but instead he was intercepted by the police who seized the alleged drugs from him and placed him under arrest on 30/07/2023.

The judge directed the applicant to be released on bail upon furnishing Rs 25,000 with one surety of the like amount as well as to attend the Panaji police station twice a month on the 15th and 30th of each month till the chargesheet is filed, to cooperate with the investigation, not to tamper with witnesses and not leave the state of Goa without the permission of the court.
