AYURVEDA DAY TO BE CELEBRATED UNDER ‘AYURVEDA FOR COVID-19’ THEME

VALPOI: Ayurveda Day will be observed this year under the theme of ‘Ayurveda for COVID-19’, said Dr Sunita Redkar, health officer of Community Health Centre, Valpoi.

Dr Redkar said the aim of the Ayurveda Day is to create a sense of awareness in today’s generation and promote ayurvedic principles of healing in society.

She said at CHC Valpoi, there is a special OPD for post COVID treatment which is meant for people who have already recovered from COVID-19 infection. This OPD will have a ayurvedic physician and yoga instructor who will demonstrate yoga and lungs related pranayams which will benefit in healing.

Bhironda Village Panchayat sarpanch Udaysing Rane said ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well-documented systems of medicine equally relevant in modern times. Its holistic approach whether for healthy individuals or for diseased ones remains unparalleled. Prevention of disease and promotion of health is the main aim of Ayurveda.

Physician of CHC Valpoi, Dr Bhide said practice to observe the Ayurveda Day, which falls on Dhanwantri Jayanti, was started by the Union Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidda, and Homoeopathy) in 2016.

Dhanvantari Jayanti was preferred for the celebration of Ayurveda Day to nationalise this system of medicine and to make it global. The Ministry of Ayush has decided to organise various activities marking the fifth ‘Ayurveda Day’, with a special focus on concerns related to the present pandemic and how Ayurveda can help in immunity building in this context.

Dr Shyam Kankonkar, Aqueeb Shaikh, Espy Da Costa, Dr Sujal Gaonkar and Vishal Gaonkar were present.
