Fishermen and Trawler Owners Express Frustration over Government Inaction and Sand Bar Woes

A recent incident involving the collapse of a section of the Chapora jetty has once again highlighted the dire state of neglect and disrepair plaguing the infrastructure. The incident has triggered a wave of agitation among local fishermen and trawler owners who are grappling with the consequences of the crumbling jetty and sand bar formations at the mouth of the Chapora river.

Fishermen in the Chapora region have voiced their frustration with what they describe as the “apathetic attitude of the government” towards addressing the deteriorating condition of the jetty. Despite numerous appeals and requests for repairs, the concerns of these fishermen, whose livelihoods depend on the sea, have seemingly fallen on deaf ears. “The condition of the jetty is affecting our fishing business and our only source of livelihood,” lamented a distressed fisherman
