       There is no difference between generic medicines and that of branded companies but there is vast difference between their rates ranging from 50% to 90% and is affordable to common citizens. To make these medicines available to common man is the initiative of central Government with the sole motive to provide medical services to common man at affordable cost stated by the Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant who was speaking at a function of 5thJanaushadi Diwas-2023 celebrated under Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Pariyojana organized by the Directorate Health Services in collaboration with the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers Government of India today.

    The Chief Minister called for awareness among people about generic medicines as the generic medicines are cheap and affordable to common man. The Government intends to provide medical facilities to every citizen affordable to him and therefore would make generic medicines available at every pharmacy by ordering them to open special counters at their respective pharmaceutical units. He suggested doctors prescribe these medicines without any hesitation.

    The Chief Minister also said that the Government would strive to avail generic medicines at GMC, distinct hospitals, CHCs, PHCs all over the State to support the mission of Prime Minister Health for all.

The Health Minister said the State Government is committed to the vision and mission of Prime Minister Health for all and efforts would be made to extend affordable medical services to everyone in the State. The PM Janaushadi Pariyojana would reach the common man providing cheap and affordable generic medicines within their reach . He said steps would be initiated to provide generic medicines at PHCs, CHS, District hospitals and at GMC as well and appealed to people to avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Pariyojana.

      The Director of the Department of Food & Drugs Authority Smt. Jyoti Sardesai who was the key-note speaker spoke about the cost, quality and importance and affordability of generic medicines.



       The beneficiaries who have availed the benefit of scheme Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Pariyojana and started their ventures were felicitated at the hands of the Chief Minister included are Dr. Pramod Talaulikar, Dr. Kiran Kerkar, Mr, Parmeshwaran, Mr. Krishnadas, Ms.Sapna Desai, Mrs Rekha Bhosle, Mr. Vashishth  Kotecha  Mr. Salam Yusuf kazi etc.

         Vendors who supply medical surgical equipment’s  - Mrs Prabha Menon and Ms.  Trupti Shirodkar were also felicitated at the hands of the Chief Minister on the occasion.

Director ( Admn ) Dept of DHS Shri Shripad Arlekar, Director Dept of Foods & Drugs Authority Smt. Jyoti Sardesai, doctors, Principals and students of Pharmacy, Pharmacists etc. attended the function.

The Director DHS Dr. Geeta Kakodkar welcomed the guests.
