  3. CM Sawant and Govind Gaude should resign over collapse of Kala Academy: Yuri Alemao

Kala Academy has become monument of corruption

Panaji: Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday held Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude for the collapse of Kala Academy structure and sought their resignations. Alemao said that Kala Academy was designed by legendary Charles Correa, where national and international fame artists have performed. “But now under the insensitive and Mission Total Commission government it has become a monument of corruption.

“Renovation work of the Kala Academy was nominated to contractor to do corruption. The work has been given to the contractor without having a tender process, which is against the CPWD manual,” Alemao said.

“We have already said that it is corruption done by the BJP government over this renovation and now the open auditorium has collapsed despite crores being spent on its renovation. Hence I demand judicial inquiry into this whole matter,” he said.

Alemao said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude are responsible for the mess done in this work. “I would say the whole cabinet is responsible as they approved the renovation without a floating tender. Work was nominated to a party to do corruption. Hence, now no department is ready to give clarification over this mess,” Alemao said.

“funds from the state exchequer are used for this renovation, which is public money. Hence we will not keep mum, but will raise this issue in the assembly session,” he said.

“I have come to know that the expenditure of the renovation will reach to Rs 90 crores. Government has failed to give clarity on the expenditure and also why it nominated contractors,” Alemao said.
