
PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS AT CORTALIM
CORTALIM: In an effort to promote sustainable livelihoods and preserve traditional craftsmanship, the Zonal Agriculture Office, Mormugao, Directorate of Agriculture, Govt of Goa and Coconut Development Board, Kochi is organizing a Coconut Handicraft Training Program from 20th to 25th January 2025 at Cortalim Village Panchayat hall, Cortalim.
This initiative aims to empower participants with skills to create beautiful and marketable handicrafts from coconut shells, husks, and other parts, fostering creativity and eco-friendly practices.
The training program is inaugurated by Cortalim MLA Anton Vas and in the presence of Sandeep FolDessai, Director of Agriculture, Dattaprasad Desai, Dy Director of Agriculture, Anil Noronha, Asst Director of Agriculture, Gauri Prabhudesai, Agriculture Officer, resource person Sonu Shetgaonkar and staff of ZAO Mormugao.
The resource person was Shetgaonkar from Pernem, who’s going to teach participants from Mormugao Taluka to learn a variety of techniques, including designing, carving, polishing, and assembling coconut-based handicrafts such as jewelry, decor items, and utility products.
Shetgaonkar will conduct interactive sessions and provide hands-on training, ensuring participants gain practical experience and guidance in crafting high-quality products. This program also includes insights into product marketing and strategies to establish a small-scale business in the handicraft sector.
Speaking to participants, Anton Vas said “This training program is not just about learning a skill but also about empowering individuals to contribute to sustainable living and economic growth. We are thrilled to see the community coming together to explore the creative potential of coconut-based handicrafts.”
