CONGREES LEADERS REMEMBER PANDIT NEHRU ON HIS BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

PANAJI: Former Chief Minister and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro on Saturday appealed to all Congress to vow to fight evil designs of State and Union government, who he alleged, are all out to destroy Goa and all out to bring coal into the State.

Luizinho was speaking at a programme organised by the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on the occasion of 131st birth anniversary of first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress office, Panaji.

The day is also celebrated as `Children Day’ in the country.

Reacting to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s allegations that Congress Party was the culprit in increasing coal imports into Goa, Luizinho retaliated, “If Congress leaders brought coal then what are you doing?”

Luizinho said it was Pandit Nehru, who took the decision to march Indian Army into the territory of India and liberate Goa. Nehru’s contribution to attain freedom and liberate Goa is unforgettable.

Former Chief Minister and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said late Pandit Nehru was a visionary and was the architect of modern India. He opposed coal transportation, work of laying railway double track and marina project and said, “We want development but not at the cost of the ecology of the State.”

At the same time Sardinha expressed his concern at the disintegration of Congress Party and appealed to all to get their act together and move forward.

Former Calangute MLA and GPCC general secretary Agnel Fernandes also spoke.   

Ealier, Congress leaders paid rich tribute to the first Prime Minister late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary.
