CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE LEADING TO ELECTRICITY WORKER’S DEATH

VASCO: The Mormugao Block Congress has expressed strong condemnation of the egregious negligence exhibited by MVR Infra, which has led to the tragic and preventable death of an employee from the electricity department. This incident, resulting from the collapse of inadequately constructed scaffolding at the MVR Infra site, highlights the company’s blatant disregard for safety protocols.

In spite of explicit legal obligations and established industry safety standards, MVR Infra has persistently failed to provide a safe working environment, thereby jeopardizing the safety of its workers and the public.

This incident should not be classified as an accident; rather, it is a consequence of criminal negligence, and accountability must be enforced against those responsible.

The Mormugao Congress delegation has approached the Vasco police inspector, demanding the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against MVR Infra and its accountable officials under IPC Sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 337, 338, and other pertinent provisions.

They have also called for a thorough investigation into the company’s recurrent breaches of safety regulations, stringent legal action against those culpable for this serious oversight, appropriate compensation for the family of the deceased worker, and a commitment to implementing safety measures at all future project sites.

According to a press release from the Congress, the BJP-led government has failed to enforce regulations concerning worker safety, thereby permitting companies like MVR Infra to operate without accountability. The Congress has asserted that it will not remain passive while the lives of workers are endangered for corporate gain. Should immediate measures not be taken, the Congress Party is prepared to initiate a mass movement demanding justice for the victim and accountability from those in authority.
