CONGRESS DEMANDS TO ROLL BACK 833% HIKE IN DENTAL COLLEGE FEES
PANAJI: The Opposition Congress Party and its frontal organisation National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa on Friday demanded that the government roll back the proposed Rs two lakh fees per annum for post-graduate courses in Goa Dental College to its earlier Rs 24,000 fees.
Speaking to reporters, All India Professional Congress Goa Convenor Dr Ashish Kamat said that there were apprehensions in the minds of students that even medical college and other professional courses fees will be hiked.
He feared that poor and economically weaker students will not be able to pursue medical and dental course due to exorbitant hike proposed by the government.
Dr Kamat alleged that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane often announces grand designs by spending public money and then hands it over to private institutions.
Dr Kamat claimed that there were plans to give two floors of the South Goa District Hospital to a BJP functionary from Belgaum to run a private college. He also said Vishwajit can open 10 medical colleges given his background.
Dr Kamat said the CVTS which was started for public by former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar and where free surgery under medical insurance was done, is today turned into a COVID ward. Today people requiring surgery have to either stay at home or go to a private hospital.
NSUI Goa President Ahraz Mulla requested all the students across Goa to join NSUI and support their movement against hike in fees in all streams, even as students are attending online classes.
NSUI Goa General Secretary Simran Prabhu Malkarnekar, NSUI North Goa President Naushad Chaudhari and Devsurabhee Yaduvanshi were also present for press briefing.
