Alleging that the corrupt BJP government has amended the Principal Code of Communidade to benefit children of Ministers, Congress on Friday demanded to revoke the dubious amendment.
Capt. Viriato Fernandes, General Secretary of GPCC on Friday addressed a press conference and exposed the act of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, who has allotted 400 square meter plot to his son using new amendments.
GPCC President Amit Patkar and John Nazareth were also present.
“These amendments in the Code of Comunidade by the Pramod Sawant led BJP government has exposed the ill intentions and selfish motives of the Brashtachar Jhumla Party in grabbing comunidade land for themselves and their family members,” Fernandes said.
According to Fernandes, in June 2023, article 334-A of the Principal Code of Comunidades was conveniently amended to permit “landless” children of the components of respective comunidades who have attained 18 years, to be allotted plots of land carved from comunidade property.
“In accordance with the above amendment, the December 2023 gazette announced that one McKinley Emmanuel Godinho, as a child of Chicalim comunidade component, had been allotted a 400 sq. m. plot of land in Sy.137/1. Not surprisingly, it turns out that the above McKinley Emmanuel Godinho is the son of Mauvin Godinho, Cabinet Minister of Transport & Panchayats in the Pramod Sawant BJP government. This itself proves the motive of the BJP government to bring the amendment,” He said.
Amit Patkar said that the son of the Minister has sworn affidavit saying he doesn’t own any residential land and he should be allotted land under new allotment. “But he already has three plots on his name. This is a total corruption case, where the minister’s son has benefited out of the new amendment,” Patkar said.
He said that the common man is harassed while obtaining any government certificate, but ministers son is given plots using amendments. “Chief Minister is involved in this case because an amendment has been made by his government. Minister should be sacked immediately,” Patkar demanded.
