  3. CRICKET BETTING ON INDIA-BANGLADESH MATCH:  THREE FROM GUJARAT ARRESTED

PORVORIM: Porvorim Police conducted a raid on an unlawful cricket betting operation, resulting in the arrest of three individuals from Gujarat. According to Police Inspector Rahul Parab of Porvorim, late on the night of February 20, reliable sources provided information regarding individuals accepting bets on the cricket match between India and Bangladesh during the Champions Trophy at a rented bungalow in Pilerne.

In response, a specialized team was assembled to conduct the raid, leading to the apprehension of three suspects: Maksud Modan (28-yr- old), Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai (25-yr-old), and Rizvan Bhash (20-yr-old), all hailing from Gujarat. The operation yielded various betting materials, including four mobile phones, one laptop, and routers, with a total value of Rs 1,10,000.

An FIR has been filed under sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. The raiding team comprised PI Rahul Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Arun Shirodkar, and constables Mahadev Naik, Akash Naik, Nitesh Gawde, and Siddhesh Naik. Ongoing investigations are being conducted under the oversight of SDPO Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal.
