
PORVORIM: Freedom fighter Libia Lobo Sardesai honored four distinguished awardees at the second edition of Vivekananda Angel Awards (VAA) of Ethernet Xpress Foundation at a function held at Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr, Porvorim on January 21.
The recipients of the awards included Durgadas Parab, who provides scholarships to underprivileged students through the Urja and Akshay Urja Foundation; Victor Hugo Gomes, known as Goa’s museum man, who fosters and supports artisans and traditional crafts; Naman Sawant Dhawaskar, who aids the children of the Katkari tribe through Samvedna Kendr; and Sandeep Parab, who rehabilitates destitute and abandoned women through his organization, Jeevanand.
During her address, Chief Guest Libia Lobo Sardesai encouraged the audience to support the awardees in their commendable community service. She shared anecdotes from the life of Swami Vivekananda, emphasizing his mission of compassion and empathy towards the impoverished and marginalized.
The event was also attended by Dr Pandurang Phaldessai, Director of Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr, along with Guest of Honour Vijay Patil and Sagar Govekar from the Ethernet Xpress Foundation.
Sagar Govekar extended a warm welcome to the attendees, while Pravin Sabnis introduced the awardees. The event was compered by Pranita Dekhne, and Mahendra Tiwari delivered the vote of thanks.
The awardees shared insights into their efforts to assist those in need. Volunteers from the Samraat Club Porvorim contributed their support to the event.
The Ethernet Xpress Foundation is actively engaged in various initiatives aimed at assisting underprivileged students, women, and self-help groups. The Vivekananda Angel Awards have been established since last year to recognize the contributions of individuals who consistently support underserved communities.
